not sure good question. i guess they would go the same place the prisoners with diabetes, etc. go. the warden probably will give them their medication.

This is a really tough question. I know that you worry about your loved one being in jail with a disability, but I worry about him/her committing whatever crime landed them there in the first place. A crime is a crime and the time is the time. Believe me, prisoners are treated humanely and are given their medication and see the nurse or a doctor as required. If something happens, they are even taken to the local emergency room. Forty eight hours is a short time to worry about him/her, but hopefully long enough that they learn that they are subject to the same laws as the rest of us. If that sounds hard, I am sorry. It comes from a very long career in criminal justice.

In Illinois, county and state jails have a medical staff available…..usually the people who have medical problems are kept in the medical area (ward, wing, pod, etc;).

Well, if the heart condition didn’t prevent you from committing a crime, there is no reason it should prevent you from paying for the crime. Hopefully, you will be treated like any other criminal. Otherwise, you should have to pay for anything extra yourself.

I often wonder the same thing.To me a heart patient would be a high risk inmate crime or no crime 48 hours doesn’t sound like you robbed a bank. If you have a weak heart to much stress and anxiety will put a strain on the heart. I guess they are not obligated to have do anything.They don’t give you your meds because the other inmates I think would take them or sell them or use them. Pray your family get’s a big settlement from your death.

In jail, same as everyone else.
Chances are, if they are able bodied enough to commit a crime, then they are able-bodied enough to survive 48 hours in a jail.

County Jail Facilities each have whats called “Medical” this a special area within the Jail where inmates with medical issues or conditions are housed. There are Officers assigned to keep whats called “close watch” on these inmates where they visually check the inmate at least every 15 to 30 minutes depending on the status of the inmate and his condition. This area of the Jail also has Medical Staff assigned 24/7 usually at least an R/N

Some of your larger counties have medical areas in their jails. Others might put you in a cell or area all alone and have cameras on you 24/7.
