How To Lower Cholesterol Most Effectivley?
I just had bloodwork done for a physical. My overall cholesterol is 226. my LDL is 157 and HDL is 36. I know I need to raise the HDL and seriously lower the LDL. Are there any foods out there that can help this? And will excersice and dropping weight help? Im also pre-diabetic. No better motivation to work out regularly than that. Any suggestions would be great. I current’y work out sporadically but now I believe I will be doing at least 30 mins 5 days a week since Ive seen where I stand.

Cut down on red meat and other animal fat products, and
try getting whole grains into your diet. One thing I like is lowfat yogurt with AllBran Buds (Buds not shreds or flakes) and yup get your exercise.
Take ground flax seeds and omega3 fish oils also eat oatmeal..this should help along with changing your diet and exercising cut out soda`s eat clean no junk food. Dropping weight will help also.
Lose weight. Red rice yeast may help as may garlic. Walk 30 min a day. Ride a bicycle.
I think I was the first United States citizen to use cinnamon to effectively lower my cholesterol sufficiently to avoid statin drugs (Lipitor, crestor, etc.) and have before/after blood test proof to back it up! My local newspaper, The Saginaw News, ran a front page article about my success on April 20, 2004 based on a March 31, 2004 blood draw. They did a follow-up on December of that year. All this after a Jan 1, 2002 heart attack followed almost immediately with quadruple bypass surgery.
In my “before” blood test, based on a July 28, 2003 blood draw, my total cholesterol was 190 and my LDL (bad) cholesterol was 120. In the “after” blood test, based on a March 31, 2004 blood draw, my total cholesterol was 138 and LDL cholesterol was 72!! My cardiologist was quoted in the April article as saying that the drop was “spectacular.” I had taken the cinnamon on and off for about three months. It was my last ditch effort to avoid statins based on the Pakistan study published in late 2003.
The study concluded that the lesser amount, 1 gram, was MORE effective controlling type II diabetes than larger amounts of cinnamon and had the same cholesterol lowering effect, though it took longer. I used the max of 6 grams. I now use a much smaller amount, closer to the 1 gram minimum mentioned in the study.
I am STILL statin free, though my LDL isn’t as low. It’s now in the mid 80’s. However my other cholesterol numbers are so good (for example my total cholesterol to HDL ratio is 2.7; anything under 4 is considered to be good) that I am easily avoiding statins. Remember, cholesterol problems, especially HDL cholesterol, almost killed me with a heart attack. Cinnamon does NOT raise HDL. I, unfortunately, need to use nicotinic acid (niacin) at pharmaceutical levels to keep my HDL numbers up. It is the ONLY powerful “drug” I use on a daily basis. Considering that most post-heart attack/bypass surgery patients use several expensive drugs (with potentially bad side effects), I’d say I’m doing well!
Will it work for you? I’ve found that cinnamon works to varying degrees from spectacular to no effect at all. The only side effect I’ve heard about is stomach upset, which is one of a long list of possible side effects using standard drug therapies to lower cholesterol. I’ve had no side effects.
Another effective way to control both cholesterol and diabetes is weight loss. As I’m also pre-diabetic, I plan on doing the one thing I haven’t: lose significant weight. I’m 5′ 7.5″ and weigh 162 pounds. I plan on losing over 10% of my body weight in the next few months (yes, I work out using a Bowflex, recumbent bike, and treadmill). I’m hoping that will keep me non-diabetic for the rest of my life and as a bonus, I may get even BETTER cholesterol numbers! It’s the belly fat specifically that’s the problem for people like me. Don’t need a great deal, just enough to cause problems. I’ve decided it’s time to eliminate it.
Less eggs if you eat them – the yolk are what is high in cholesterol.
Eat oatmeal for break – not the pre-packaged kind that are high in sugar.
oatmeal is a GREAT food to lower cholesterol. If you want more cholesterol info, tips and remedies, visit http://www.realhomeremedies.com and click on the high cholesterol link on the left.
