Typically you fast for 12 hours and eat have a low-fat meal the night before. Drink only water. You need to be hydrated and it makes finding a viable vein easier for the blood draw.
12 hours. This means no coffee, tea, or milk either…a lot of people forget that.

12 hours was what I had to do.
24 hours don’t eat or drink anything other then water after midnight

Most tests require 8-12 hours of fasting, but a minimum of 12 hours is more common. You can still drink water during the fasting period.
