  1. shell,
    Almost always, yes.
Cholesterol levels will be different from person to person, but anyone whose weight goes down will also have his cholesterol go down.
Now, occasionally, a thin person will have higher cholesterol than a heavier person because our livers make cholesterol, and some livers make more than others. But weight usually makes a big difference in our cholesterol levels. Mine went down dramatically when I lost 20 pounds, and I wasn’t fat to begin with.

So, yes–thin people usually have lower cholesterol levels than those who are not. It’s not a guarantee, but it normally works that way.

  2. Both fisherwoman and snow on cedars are correct. My husband is quite skinny but has to watch his cholesterol intake. I’m a little on the chubby side but have a very low cholesterol level due to good genes.

  3. It varies person to person, weight doesn’t affect it. Other factors do.

  4. Their levels are no different than anyone else’s. If you are thin, you can have health problems just as a person who is heavy can have health problems.

  5. In general, they do. If a thin person is thin because he/she eats a healthy diet and exercises, then you could see how that person might have a lower cholesterol than someone who is obese because he/she eats a fast-food diet and doesn’t exercise. There may be other reasons for the correlation, too. But there is a lot of variability between individuals so you can’t say that all thin people have low cholesterol.

  6. nope – you can be thin and have high LDL. Clogging of the arteries and being fat that leads to a sedentary life style can lead to a good old heart attack
