If you don’t take any medications, start when you are 18. If you are taking any medications, especially a birth control pill, you need to get it tested. The pill made my cholesterol rise to over 300.

You should start testing when you think you need too. Mostly like when you are feeling like you are eating wrong. Like too much seafood, burnt stuff and meat.
But I am sure you are fine. Don’t worry just yet.

My first test was when I was 22. It was 226 mg/dL. I also had high blood pressure. I got both tested again (along with blood sugar) when I was 25 and every 5 years since (during full physicals).
It’s recommended that males get physicals to test all these things plus a bunch of other stuff at 5 year intervals until 40 or so. It might 35 or 45. After that, I think it’s every 2 years. Females have a different schedule and also need to have themselves checked for breast cancer.
If you’re under 30 I wouldn’t worry about it too much unless you have a history of it in your family or you have one test result that indicates you’re at risk.
